CTA took on the full restoration of 36 Gramercy Park East, a magnificent 1910 steel framed apartment building designed by James Riely Gordon in an opulent Gothic Revival style. The street elevation, adorned with richly detailed white glazed terra cotta featuring shield motifs, projecting grotesques, and over 120 putti, exudes its historic grandeur.

Our restoration of the street façade involved significant terra cotta unit replication and resetting, carefully preserving the intricate details of the original design. The entire façade underwent a thorough cleaning, revealing its original beauty. We carried out roofing and parapet rebuilding to ensure the building's structural integrity.

The cornice at the roof level deserved special attention, and we disassembled and reset it with utmost care. During the restoration, we salvaged a substantial percentage of the existing material, complementing it with exact replicas of matching glazed architectural terra cotta.

Given its designation as a New York City Landmark, all of our work at 36 Gramercy Park East underwent rigorous review and approval by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission Staff.
