The Joan & Bob Tisch Emergency Meal Distribution Center is a critical facility that supports Citymeals on Wheels' mission to provide meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers. The new facility in the Hunts Point area of the Bronx is a significant improvement over the previous facility in Brooklyn and is equipped to handle future emergencies.

Our team was responsible for the renovation and conversion of the existing grocery store warehouse into a food pantry and emergency meal packaging and distribution center. The project involved both interior and exterior work to ensure that the building was functional and efficient.

The interior work included the construction of a new donor's conference room, which was created using the old walk-in refrigerators. Renovating the existing offices and staff rooms and updating the building bathrooms ensure that they are accessible and meet current building codes.

The exterior scope of work was equally important and included a full roof replacement, masonry repairs and lintel replacement on the facades, loading dock repairs, and repaving of the parking area. These repairs were necessary to ensure that the building was secure, weather-tight, and accessible for staff and volunteers.

The Joan & Bob Tisch Emergency Meal Distribution Center can now store nonperishable food for an additional 55,000 meals and host up to 250 volunteers at a time to package food for delivery. The new facility also supports a new weekend meal delivery program for Bronx recipients, ensuring that homebound elderly New Yorkers receive the nourishment they need to remain healthy and independent.
