DANIEL J. ALLEN, AIA, APT
Dan is a Principal of CTA Architects P.C. and the firm’s historic preservation specialist. With over thirty-five years of experience in the field, Dan's journey in preservation began as an architectural terra cotta and cast stone craftsman before pursuing a Masters of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University. His profound understanding of the craft and an unwavering commitment to sensitive restoration and adaptive reuse have become hallmarks of his work.
Dan has been the Principal in charge of many of the firm's preservation projects, including our on-going Historic Preservation Term Contract with the New York Department of Design & Construction. His recent projects include our award-winning restorations of the ornamental terra cotta façade at 36 Gramercy Park East, the decorative plaster ceiling at the Jaffe Art Theater, and the Irish Hunger Memorial. Dan’s preservation work has also been recognized by organizations such as the New York Landmarks Conservancy, the Preservation League of New York State, Residential Architect Magazine, and the Society of American Registered Architects’ New York and national chapters.
Outside of CTA, Dan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, a board member of the New York Preservation Archive Project, and the former President of the Board of Directors of the Historic Districts Council. Dan is an Association for Preservation Technology (APT) Recognized Professional.
