The project at the NAC space at 408 Grand Street consisted of transforming a section of the former management office to a food pantry for the Grand Street Guild community. This project was initiated in response to the relocation of the NAC pantry, necessitated by the leasing of its former space—along with the management office—to the grocery store chain LIDL.
The scope of work included the selection and recommendation of interior finishes, furniture, lighting, and acoustical panels to create a welcoming and functional environment. The design incorporated an office, a storage room, a bathroom, and a main area for displaying locally grown seasonal produce. The new space is thoughtfully designed to replicate a supermarket shopping experience, enhancing accessibility and dignity for residents and community members utilizing the pantry. We were able to salvage and reuse finishes, fixtures, structure and the storefront of the former space in this new expanded and enhanced pantry.
