Located in the historic Brooklyn Heights district of New York City, the Hotel Saint George Tower stands as a testament to its architectural legacy. Constructed from 1929 to 1930 and designed by Emery Roth Architects, it once held the distinction of being the tallest hotel of its era. A highlight of this structure is the 27th-floor outdoor rooftop dining area, offering vistas of the city's skyline, adorned with vibrant terra cotta piers concealing the building's vent stacks.

Our exterior restoration endeavor encompassed a comprehensive roof replacement, installation of a sundeck, and meticulous restoration of original terra cotta piers. Special attention was paid to the preservation and restoration of the piers, with damaged units being replicated in true glazed architectural terra cotta. Samples of existing terra cotta were sent to the fabricator for matching glazes to ensure a near-perfect match to the originals. These elevated piers demanded special structural reinforcement to withstand the forces of wind due to their elevated location.

We were re-engaged to provide restoration of the 30-story co-op building to address water penetration and facade deficiencies related to New York City’s the Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP). Our scope included the restoration or replacement of terra cotta elements, the rebuilding of upper-level brick facades, structural steel reinforcement, new flashing installation, and window replacements. Structural steel was reinforced, new flashing was installed, and 11 windows were replaced. A selection of glazes ensured continuity with the historical masonry, and the restoration received the nod of approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
