17 Pitt Street is a wonderful example of how thoughtful design can transform even the most utilitarian structures into visually appealing and sustainable assets for the community. This project is a ground-up design of a 3,500-square-foot, single-story industrial building located on the corner of a late 1960s "superblock" on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
Our team focused on maximizing energy efficiency and sustainability, which led to the incorporation of an extensive green roof that blooms seasonally. The steel frame, cast concrete, and channel glass construction were carefully chosen to provide durability and aesthetic appeal. Three fold-up garage doors open into the building’s storage areas, while an inviting main entrance is located beneath a long, projecting awning supported by exposed steel tubes.
The building's main function is to house the residential complex's refuse, and we designed the structure to cleverly conceal this function, creating a visually appealing building that seamlessly blends into its surroundings.
