This five-story rowhouse, built between 1886-1888, was designed by Arthur Bates Jennings and currently houses commercial businesses on the first two floors and residential units on the upper floors. The main facade of the building is constructed of limestone in the Romanesque Revival style, featuring arched windows and carved detailing. The building is capped with a pitched slate mansard roof. The first two floors of the facade appear to have been previously altered with the addition of brick masonry cladding and a pressed metal shingle roof.
Our project focused on the exterior restoration of the street elevation and replacement of the main roof. A significant aspect of the restoration was the replication of the complex arched window, including its painted stained glass. The facade work included localized repair and rebuilding of the limestone, restoration of the wood windows, replacement of the aluminum windows, replacement of the slate and metal shingle roofs, masonry repairs, waterproofing, installation of new cresting, reconstruction of the parapet, and installation of a new perimeter railing. The roof replacement included the installation of a new insulated resin-based roof assembly, replacement of deteriorated skylights, and removal of any defunct roof openings. This extensive restoration and replacement work helped to maintain the historic character and structural integrity of the building.
