The 2nd Avenue Marquee is a new addition intended to replace a previous marquee that was removed by the MTA during construction work on the Second Avenue subway line. Although the fate of the old marquee remains unclear, the MTA and the building owners have reached an agreement on appropriate compensation to facilitate the replacement of the marquee.

The current Board and CTA Architects shared the view that the old marquee did not align with the overall architectural language of the building. In developing the design for the new marquee, CTA received design inspiration from the Board and subsequently presented three schematic options. These options were carefully crafted to harmonize with the building's overall aesthetic and adhere to the parameters set forth by the Board.

Working in collaboration with the structural engineer, the Office of James Rudderman, CTA further refined the marquee design to accommodate the necessary structural requirements and incorporate feedback from the Board.
