79-81 Leonard Street is a mixed-use building constructed in the Italianate style, built between 1859-61, and located in the Tribeca East Historic District. As part of our work, we conducted a conditions report, completed an exterior façade restoration, and repaired the cornice.

The façade and cornice of the building are clad in Tuckahoe Marble, a material that was quarried for a short period of time in Tuckahoe, NY, during the 1800s. To complete the necessary repairs and replacement work, we used Georgia White Marble, which is currently the closest natural stone match available to the original Tuckahoe Marble. The new stone was freshly quarried and tooled and should patina over time with exposure to the acidic and soot-rich atmosphere of NYC. The Georgia White Marble is also denser and more resistant to sugaring than the original material.

In addition to the façade and cornice work, we also fabricated and installed new carved stone balusters below the second-floor windows. This work helped to restore the historic character and integrity of the building while ensuring its continued use in the Tribeca East Historic District.
