Local Law 97

Buildings contribute to approximately two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions in New York City. Both Mayor Adams and previous mayors have committed to reducing these emissions as part of their goal to make the city carbon neutral by 2050.

Local Law 97, part of the Climate Mobilization Act passed by the City Council in April 2019, is one of the most ambitious plans in the nation for reducing emissions. This law is a key component of the Mayor’s New York City Green New Deal.
