Our team was thrilled to work on the restoration of P.S. 99, a highly ornamented public school building in Kew Gardens. Our primary goal was to restore the exterior of the building to its original condition while also addressing any necessary waterproofing measures to ensure the longevity of the structure.
To begin, we carefully documented and salvaged each piece of cast stone that was still intact. For pieces that were too damaged to be salvaged, we used a flexible mold to capture the intricate details of the faces featured on the second cast-stone band. With over 630 ornamental cast stones to replicate and replace, we knew that attention to detail would be crucial in ensuring a seamless restoration.
In addition to the cast-stone restoration, we also rebuilt the masonry parapets and replaced the cast stone coping at the main roof and lower parapets. We addressed foundation waterproofing and replaced any damaged masonry in those areas. We also replaced the gym floor with a new floor that features the school's mascot.
