The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) is a community development organization founded on the idea that all people deserve healthy, vibrant communities. WHEDco’s mission is to give the South Bronx access to all the resources that create thriving neighborhoods: from high-quality early education and after-school programs to fresh, healthy food, cultural programming, and economic opportunity.
Our renovation of the existing core and shell space at 443 East 162nd Street, will transform it into a dynamic and versatile office environment. Our goal is to create a multi-use space that caters to the diverse needs of the organization. The new space will introduce two offices, a cubicle office open space, a conference room, a classroom, and a pantry.
Working closely with WHEDco, our team collaborated on every aspect of the design. We have incorporated new partitions, doors, interior windows, dropped ceilings, finishes, cabinetry, and furniture to create a professional and welcoming space. Taking into consideration the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have also made adjustments to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and visitors. This includes re-designing certain areas and implementing improved ventilation systems.
Additionally, we prepared construction documents and coordinated with Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical consultants to ensure a smooth and efficient construction process. Construction has begun and partitions and insulation are being installed, bringing us one step closer to realizing our vision for this project.
